The 2009 PREVENT Child Maltreatment Institute: Enhancing Leadership in Child Maltreatment Prevention
The intensive 6-month PREVENT Institute: Enhancing Leadership in Child Maltreatment Prevention
will help multi-organizational teams prevent violence before it starts. The Institute builds skills to:

Prevent child maltreatment before it starts
Plan and evaluate prevention efforts based on and adding to the best available evidence
Lead sustainable efforts that produce lasting results
Communicate effectively with policy makers, stakeholders and others
Build a national network of colleagues

What Tangibles Can Participants Expect to Receive?

Participants can expect to leave the Institute with concrete outcomes such as:

a detailed, team-based 6-month action plan focused on developing an effective program that stimulates organizational and social change;
a Logic Model that outlines the transition from the 6-month plan into a comprehensive primary prevention program over a 5-year period;
a framework for program evaluation with measurable objectives;
communication strategies and message development for media and legislative advocacy; and
approaches for achieving program sustainability

How is The PREVENT Institute Structured?

The three-pronged PREVENT approach to learning combines education, networking and technical assistance with 6 days of courses lead by expert faculty and 6 months of project work back on the job with your team.
Part 1 (February 16-18, 2009): Three days of on-site coursework and team-based activities.
Part 2: A six-month team project back home with an experienced coach to apply new skills.
Part 3 (September 2009): Final three days of on-site courses and team presentations.
After the Institute: Distance learning: resources and networking opportunities will reinforce skills and help extend the learning to others. Continuing contact with the project evaluators will document progress.

Who Should Attend?

Experienced multi-organizational teams from across the country of up to 6 people will be selected based on their experience working together, demonstration of leadership in child maltreatment prevention AND readiness to take an increased leadership role in making social and organizational changes to prevent child maltreatment. Teams must provide assurances that they will have release time to work on the PREVENT project during the training period.
