Impact evaluation: Systematic
process of collecting, analyzing and interpreting data to assess and
evaluate the short-term outcomes of a program. See also Evaluation.
Impact objectives (also
referred to as "intermediate" or "program" objectives): Specific,
measurable statements of desired change in knowledge, behavior or
other intermediate characteristics that are expected to occur because
of the intervention and before the outcome objective can occur. See also
Objectives.
Incidence: The
number of people within a given population who have newly acquired
a health-related condition during a specific time period.
Indicated: Intervention
approaches aimed at those who are already experiencing symptoms of
a condition
(e.g. those who have already been victimized or have perpetrated violence.)
Individual: Personal
beliefs, attitudes, behaviors or characteristics that influence health
status. See also Social ecological
model.
Initiative: A
broad or innovative effort, which
can include programs, projects and/or campaigns, designed to bring
about
a change
in behavior,
policy or health.
Injury: Any
damage to the body
resulting from acute exposure to thermal, mechanical, electrical or
chemical
energy
that
exceeds a threshold of tolerance in the body. See also Intentional
injury and Unintentional injury.
Intentional injury: Injury
that results from purposeful, intended human action, whether directed
at others (e.g. assaultive) or oneself (e.g. self-directed). Intentional
injury is sometimes referred to as violent injury. See also Unintentional
injury.
International Classification
of Diseases (ICD): A classification of the nature and external
cause of illness and injuries developed by the World Health Organization
(WHO).
Intervention: An action or program that aims to bring about identifiable outcomes.
