PREVENT is operated by the University of North Carolina Injury Prevention Research Center, a partner in the National Training Initiative for Injury and Violence Prevention (NTI). PREVENT was launched in 2003 with support from the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at CDC. To date, practitioners in 44 states have been trained in the primary prevention of different types of violence. NTI members serve as co-chairs of the PREVENT Steering Committee.
Other work being done by NTI includes: (1) developing the Core Competencies for Injury and Violence Prevention, (2) implementing a Training Resources Questionnaire to identify the current training resources for injury and violence prevention as well as the training needs of practitioners and leaders in the field, (3) creating a Training Resources Guide to serve a clearinghouse for the resources identified in the questionnaire, and (4) guiding the development of a Curriculum for Injury and Violence Prevention.
